Overview
The project involves the supply, installation and commissioning of air-cooled non-ozone depleting VRV heat recovery air conditioning equipment at BC Place stadium to replace the existing Florida heat pumps and hydronic systems serving the private suites and lounge areas within the level 3 areas of the facility.

BC Place Stadium, a bustling multipurpose venue in downtown Vancouver, sought to upgrade its air conditioning systems to enhance operational efficiency and provide better comfort for its guests. The stadium management required a solution that would minimize disruptions during the installation while meeting the specific requirements outlined in the request for proposal (RFP). Additionally, the project involved two distinct phases with limited windows for construction, necessitating meticulous planning and coordination.

EAS stepped up to the challenge, bringing our expertise in HVAC mechanical services, particularly in VRF heat recovery air conditioning. Our company’s commitment to project excellence and a collaborative approach were vital in tackling the complexity of the task. Understanding the unique client requirements, we assigned a dedicated project manager from pre-construction to close-out, ensuring clear communication and continuity throughout the project.

Execution
With precise planning, we commenced phase 1 rough-in work immediately, preparing the site for VRV heat recovery refrigeration piping/control systems installation. Simultaneously, they fast-tracked the installation of VRV systems equipment, working in coordination with ESC Controls for efficient control system integration. We utilized professional industrial movers to safely install the equipment above the suites, minimizing any potential damage and downtime. The phased approach allowed us to expedite the switchover from existing hydronic systems to the new VRF heat recovery systems, enabling early start-up and testing.
ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE
Results
We successfully installed approximately 41 new air conditioning VRF heat recovery units and associated components, meeting the project’s technical requirements and exceeding BC Place – Pavco’s expectations. The humanistic approach, collaboration with clients and consultants, and dedicated project management ensured a smooth project delivery.
Our expertise in working within sensitive public and operational environments enabled minimal disruptions during the construction phase. The timely execution of phase 1 positioned EAS to seamlessly transition into phase 2 work elements, further showcasing our ability to handle complex schedules and owner requirements.
